When trying to conceive, when should I get Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
If you’re planning for pregnancy and would like to include Lymphatic Massage as another tool for preparation and conception, have a read through the below.
Planning for conception (before actively trying)
Timing: Lymphatic Drainage Massage can be done anytime throughout your cycle. So book in when it suits your schedule.
Frequency: Aim for 1-4 sessions per month for 3 months, before actively trying to conceive.
The goal: To increase blood and lymph flow, lower inflammation in your body (rid toxins), reduce stress, and help balance hormones.
Preconception (actively trying)
Timing: Book in during your follicular phase (days 1-14) of your cycle when actively trying to conceive. It’s best to avoid Lymphatic Drainage during the luteal phase (day 14 to menstruation).
Frequency: 1-2 massages per cycle.
The goal: To increase blood and lymph flow, lower inflammation in your body (rid toxins), reduce stress, and help balance hormones.
Why this timing?
3 months: it takes about 90 days for an “immature” egg to grow, ready for ovulation.
Follicular phase: This phase is when the body is preparing for ovulation. Lymphatic Drainage Massage may help optimise blood flow and nutrient delivery to the reproductive organs during this phase.
Luteal phase: The body is preparing for potential implantation and so Lymphatic Drainage is generally avoided as it could interfere with the delicate hormonal balance required for implantation.
What about IVF?
Timing + Frequency: Ask your doctor as they can create an individualised schedule. It is likely to be in the lead up to your embryo transfer.
The goal: This approach can help with fluid retention and bloating, improve blood and lymph circulation, improve nutrient supply to the ovaries via microcirculation, and potentially support a better environment for implantation.
In short… opt for the start of your cycle. Book in here and be in touch with any questions.
