Why Lymphatic Drainage Massage is the Wellness Trend that’s here to stay
Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage a Wellness Trend that’s here to stay. Yes… and here’s why!
Lymphatic drainage massage has been trending across the global wellness scene for a while now. Celebrities and athletes swear by its ability to reduce bloating, boost energy and enhance recovery. And my Melbourne clients turn to it regularly.
I offer treatments designed to support your body’s natural detoxification process, reduce fluid retention, and leave you feeling lighter, relaxed and refreshed.
What Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage is a specialised Remedial massage technique that works to stimulate the flow of lymph — a clear fluid rich in white blood cells and nutrients that circulates just beneath the skin. Think of the lymphatic system as your body’s internal “clean-up crew”, responsible for filtering waste, toxins, and excess fluid.
Unlike traditional massage styles that use deep pressure, lymphatic drainage massage uses light, rhythmic strokes and gentle pumping movements, following the natural direction of lymph flow towards your collarbones. This encourages the lymph vessels to open and efficiently move fluid through your body.
The reason it’s so popular…
Whether you're a wellness girlie, recovering from illness, or simply feeling a bit sluggish, lymphatic drainage massage can be a helpful tool. Here are some of the benefits my clients in Fitzroy and Clifton Hill experience:
Reduced bloating, puffiness and eased fluid retention – especially after travel or when experiencing inflammation
Improved digestion (including constipation - I have clients who have suffered with chronic constipation and find it is relieved for days post their Drainage Massage)
Boosted immune function — think getting sick less
Relief from sore, heavy legs and muscle fatigue. Clients often leave feeling lighter and with less pain.
Assistance with inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema
Support for hormonal balance (e.g. during menopause, IVF prep, fertility prep or with inflammatory conditions such as endometriosis or PCOS)
Post-operative healing assistance (e.g. post-cosmetic surgery)
How Lymphatic Drainage supports wellness and recovery…
Originally developed in the 1930s by Danish biology researcher Dr Emil Vodder and his wife while working in France — lymphatic drainage massage was designed to relieve swelling and promote healing in people with chronic respiratory conditions.
Lymphatic drainage helps move stagnant fluid, which may accumulate due to stress, inactivity, inflammation, medication use, or illness to name a few common culprits.
Practices like dry brushing, saunas, wearing compression garments and rebounding can all help you manage fluid retention, but they just don’t compare to the precision of a trained therapist.
What to expect at your Lymphatic Drainage session…
My lymphatic treatments are gentle yet effective. You’ll lie comfortably on the massage table while I use light, rhythmic strokes to encourage lymph flow—focusing on key areas like your abdomen, legs, arms, and neck.
Each session is tailored to your goals— such as post-surgery recovery, bloating relief, hormonal balance or general detox support.
Expect relaxation and results
One of the things my clients love is that Lymphatic drainage massage feels both calming and purposeful. It’s not about pressing muscles, it’s about working with the body’s natural systems to promote healing and harmony.

FAQs
Q: Is it painful?
No—lymphatic drainage massage is very gentle and relaxing. It works with the body’s natural rhythms.
Q: Do you use oil?
Usually I don’t use any oil during your treatment.
Q: How many sessions do I need?
While even one session offers noticeable benefits, 3-6 treatments close to each other (eg. one a week) is often recommended for goals like inflammation reduction or post-op recovery. And then later you might find that one massage a month or bimonthly is enough to support you in feeling balanced in your body and mind.
Q: Can it help with digestion or immunity?
Yes! By improving circulation and fluid movement, lymphatic drainage massage may help support immune health and digestive function—especially when combined with a healthy lifestyle.
